In the surrounding area of Comox Valley once were many railroads serving the coal mining and logging industries. A steam locomotive is on display at the Chamber of Commerce in Courtenay. Today, there is VIA Rail that operates freight and passenger traffic between Victoria and Courtenay on Vancouver Island on the E&N Railroad. You can hear it's whistle as it passes through the Comox Valley.
